I first discovered this book about 8 years ago. At that time, I purchased several copies and quickly gave them to my closest dog-lover friends. Since then, I have given this book to three friends upon the loss of their dog. I am so impressed with this book because of the content and the format. It not only sheds new light on the faithfulness and simple inner beauty of dogs, but causes one to contemplate one's own inner self. It provides both humor and comfort. It is such a poignant book that it will touch anyone who values their dog, whether the reader is a Christian (as is the author) or not. Two of the people I gave this book to were not Christians and absolutely loved reading and receiving it. I liked the book so much I bought a copy for my friend, Bill. He loved the thought in the book as well.
Found this book as I was waiting for my dog Rocky at the Vet's Loved reading it so much I wrote down the name and ordered a copy for myself! It has very interesting stories and I just got caught up in it
I love this book. I recommend it to many friends and family members. I have even purchased extra books for others. The last chapter is one I have read aloud to co-workers, and as per usual, I got all "choked up". Tears came to my eyes. The lessons and the prayers are really special. Perfectly written. Excellent author and content. I can't say enough good about it. It's wonderful.
Great little book, and-----as my wife would tell you----I'm rathe picky. Stanley has put together a number of incisive vignettes, and, fortunately, none of the "cute doggie" types. They are brief, pointed, and all designed to profer a bit of help in our daily passages. The illustrations are well done, but they are not at all the focus of the book. This could be placed on your shelf next to "Safed the Sage," or one of Max Lucado's better efforts. Well done, Gary Stanley!
Having been the owner of several wonderful dogs throughout the years and had them wrapped around my heart I couldn’t put this book down. Gary is excellent at using words to describe the feels and sentiments that I have felt. He also has a unique way of pulling life experiences out of a situation where the normal person cannot see it. Plus the spiritual aspect is amazing. I highly recommend this book for anyone to read.
We actually met the author and his wife at a Family Life Weekend to Remember conference, so reading the book has a bit more special meaning for us. The insights, compassion, reality are thought-provoking and encouraging at the same time. The journeys are wonderful for us doggie-lovers, easy to identify with and nostalgic as the author recalls simple childhood pleasures and relationships with the dogs in his life. Just delightful, with constant reminders of our Creator and His love, even through the gifts of our pets. Highly recommend as a great addition to your daily "devotionals".
